Masuk swimmers and divers take on SWC opponents

On Oct. 18, the Masuk swimmers held their Think Pink fundraiser meet in recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

MONROE, CT — Masuk High’s girls swimming and diving team has had a busy stretch of meets and activity during October.

The Panthers, coming off a 98-80 loss to Weston on Oct. 3 and a 95-88 setback to Brookfield on Oct. 7, had a nail-biter and fell 94-92 to New Milford on Oct. 11. The Panthers followed up a 97-80 loss to to Bethel-Immaculate on Oct. 18 with a 102-82 victory over host New Fairfield Oct. 20.

Masuk’s seniors were recognized during New Fairfield’s Senior Night. Masuk will have its Senior Night on Tuesday, Oct. 25, when Newtown visits at 4 p.m.

Coach Emily DeMace said she was thrilled with her team’s effort in the New Milford meet, which featured seven event victories.

In recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the Panthers held their Think Pink Pink Out fundraiser meet when Bethel-Immaculate visited on Oct. 18. The team raised money for Think Pink Monroe.

Swimmers Anisha Gera and Ruthie Giduthuri, who are a part of Masuk’s Women’s Advocacy Group, organized the fundraiser.

“The girls raised money for a great cause and had fun while doing so,” DeMace said. “Everyone wore pink swim caps to show their love and support. We had lots of friends and family sporting pink in the stands and donating money to support the cause too.”
