Masuk swimmers and diver punch tickets to championships

Masuk High’s girls swimming and diving team fell 92-84 to host Pomperaug on Tuesday, but the Panthers recorded several season-best times, including many South-West Conference and state championship qualifying performances.

Details are as follows:

200 Medley Relay – 3rd place (Helmke, Morales, Eaton, Shaik) 2:06.77.

Diving – 1st place Kate Wittenauer 216.95 – Seasonal record thus far; 2nd place Carrie Wittenauer 186.40 – seasonal record thus far.

100 Butterfly – 3rd place Eaton 1:10.69 – season record thus far.

100 Free – 3rd place Helmke 59.68.

200 Free Relay – 2nd place (Shaik, Helmke, Eaton, Morales) 1:54.41.

100 Breaststroke – 2nd place Morales 1:18.54 – seasonal record thus far.

400 Free Relay – 3rd place (Hull, Sheppard, Smith, Smith, Kirberger) 4:53.79.

Masuk Coach Emily DeMace noted that 18 swimmers and divers have already qualified for the SWC meet and seven swimmers and divers have locked up spots in states, as follows:

200 IM – Juliette Eaton SWCs, Eva Helmke SWCs and States, Yara Shaik SWCs.

50 Free – Skye Eannotti SWCs, Eva Helmke SWCs and States, Lucia SWCs.

Diving – Carly Jordan SWCs, Siobhan Riordan SWCs, Carrie Wittenauer SWCs, Kate Wittenauer SWCs and States.

100 Fly – Juliette Eaton SWCs and States.

100 Free – Skye Eannotti SWCs, Eva Helmke SWCs and States, Lucia Morales SWCs.

500 Free – Skye Eannotti SWCs.

100 Backstroke – Eva Helmke SWCs and States, Yara Shaik SWCs.

100 Breaststroke – Lucia Morales SWCs and States.
