Masuk swim team wins opening meet

Lena Savkovic won the 100 yard backstroke race in Masuk's season-opening meet.

MONROE, CT — Masuk High’s girls swimming and diving team won its season-opening meet, defeating visiting Newtown 92-81 on Friday.

Skye Eanotti won the 200 yard freestyle event in a time of 2:23.41. The Panthers had the top three finishers in this race with Betty Glus second in 2:24.72 and Stella Oliveria third in 2:28.52.

Eliza Palmieri won the diving competition with a score of 186.11.

Eannotti took first in the 500 free in 6:33.74. Lena Savkovic took first in the 100 backstroke race in 1:05.47.

Masuk won the 200 free relay with Savkovic, Laney Stillway, Ianotti and Izzy Murzinska finishing in 1:52.87.

The 200 medley relay team of Savkovic, Stillway, Murzinska and Eanotti finished second in 2:08.67.

Savkovic was runner-up in the 50 free with a time of 26.82. Stillway placed second in the 100 butterfly race in 1:18.05. Murzinska was second in the 100 free in 1:00.03 and also came in second in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:21.77.

The 400 free relay team of Ava O’Leary, Ritiksha Patel, McCaffery and Hadassah Gee was second in 6:05.24.

Masuk will visit New Fairfield Tuesday, Sept. 9, at 4 p.m.
