MONROE, CT — Masuk High’s boys swim team defeated New Fairfield 82-61 to celebrate Senior Night on Tuesday, Feb. 21.
Senior swimmers Sam McHugh, Owen Smith, Kyle Zarkar, Riley Sheppard, Enzo Maia and Joshua Ofori-Nkansah, along with managers Gabby Peña, Eva Helmke and Juliette Eaton, were honored.
The Panthers started things out with a win in the 200 yard medley relay race. Jack McHugh, Carter Adragna, Keller Hall and Zarkar placed first in 1:49.40. Masuk also had the second fastest relay as Brendan Kirberger, Smith, Jacob Urkawich and Trent Pierson finished in 2:01.46.
In the 200 freestyle, Sam McHugh was first in 2:15.20, edging out Maia who was second in 2:16.13.
Adragna won the 200 individual medley race in a time of 2:13.57. Kirberger was second in the 50 free in 23.84. Sam McHugh won the 100 butterfly in 1:00.40. Sheppard took second in the 100 free in 55.24.
Masuk went one-two in the 500 free as Kirberger finished in 5:19.60 and Alex Malecki completed the race in 6:01.43.
In the 200 free relay, Jack McHugh, Zarkar, Adragna and Sheppard finished first in 1:41.32.
Masuk sealed the team win and exhibitioned the final three events. Thomas Rodriguez had the fastest time in the 100 backstroke in 1:17.53. Hall finished the 100 breaststroke race in 1:11.48 and Smith finished close behind in 1:13.28.
In the 400 free relay, Sheppard, Sam McHugh, Adragna and Zarkar finished in 3:51.07. Maia, Malecki, Hall and Kirberger finished just behind the first team in 3:51.09.
