STRATFORD, CT — The Masuk Panthers softball team will get a chance to avenge their only conference loss of the season Thursday, when they face Brookfield High School in the SWC Tournament title game. Brookfield beat them earlier in the spring.
After the weather forced changes in the time and place of the matchup, The game will be played at the neutral site of Newtown High School at 5 p.m.
“We’re looking for redemption. They’re a good, solid team,” Masuk Coach Leigh Barone said of Brookfield. “We know we have to give them our best game.”
Masuk is coming off a 8-2 win in Tuesdays’ SWC Tournament semifinal game against No. 3 Newtown at DeLuca Field. The Panthers belted four home runs to back a stellar pitching performance by Julia Bacoulis.

Grace Ely homered in the first inning and hit one over the fence again in a seven-run fourth as the Panthers pulled away. Bacoulis, who hit a three-run shot, and Alyssa Castillo also homered to lead the power surge.
“We talk about it all the time, how hitting is contagious,” said Barone, whose squad compiled 14 hits.
In addition to limiting the opposition to an infield single, which scored two runs, Bacoulis struck out 17 batters, reaching the 750-strikeout mark in the process.
