Masuk Indoor Track team to go into season as a tight-knit group

MONROE, Conn. — The Masuk indoor track team’s first practice began with a pizza party, allowing students to bond — getting to know each other and creating a “we are a family” type atmosphere, according to the coaches.

Each student was presented with a personalized indoor track necklace, before they learned about each other by playing a game called The Spider’s Web.

A ball of yarn was passed to each person standing in a large circle. Once the yarn was handed to someone, that person said his/her name and shared a fun fact. The yarn ends in a spider’s web formation.

“This spider’s web is symbolic that we are united just like a family,” said Head Coach Donald Casey Jr.

The students also participated in a limbo challenge, feasted on pizza and other party goodies.

The Panthers currently have 85 members, a significant increase from the 61 students who participated last year.

Coaching with Casey are Hannah Keating and Joseph Lato.

“We are so proud of every student on our team,” Casey said. “The students are safe, work hard and support each other. In addition to learning indoor track skills and techniques, students are having a lot of fun and looking forward to the upcoming season.”
