Masuk hockey team’s playoff run ends in state semis

HAMDEN, CT — A strong season came to an end in a hard-fought Division III State Tournament semifinal for the Masuk High hockey team on Monday.

The No. 4 Panthers faced top seed and conference rival Bethel-Brookfield-Danbury-Immaculate and took the game to overtime before falling 5-4.

Luke Kondub scored twice and Nick Kondub and Christian LaBella also hit the back of the net for the Panthers. Nick Kondub registered three assists, Luke Kondub had two assists and LaBella one assist. Maddex LaFountain was in goal for Masuk.

The Panthers were coming off a 7-0 shutout win over the No. 13 Barlow co-op in the first round and 6-0 victory over No. 5 E.O. Smith-Tolland in the quarterfinals.
