SOUTHBURY, CT — Masuk High’s girls basketball team came out on top in a battle of Panthers, winning 59-47 at Pomperaug on Friday.
This was a big win for Masuk, which improved to 7-4 in South-West Conference play and dropped Pomperaug to 8-3 in the SWC as teams jockey for playoff positioning heading into the final two regular season games.
Grace Sheppard had a career high 21 points, Bailey Bajda scored 14 and Peyton Webb had 10.
Abby and Emma Troesser played stellar defense. Abby Troesser added six points. Julia Hourigan scored four points and Maddie Farrer had three.
Masuk led 28-24 at the half and 47-37 going to the fourth. Pomperaug got the lead down to three midway through the final quarter but Masuk finished on a 12-3 run.
Masuk visits Joel Barlow of Redding, another of the 7-4 conference teams, Monday at 6 p.m. and finishes the regular season Thursday at home against Weston (2-9) at 7 p.m.
