MONROE, CT — Masuk High’s girls lacrosse team, the No. 4 seed in the Class L State Tournament bracket, defeated No. 5 Newtown 15-7 in the quarterfinals on Friday.
Masuk avenged its loss to Newtown in the SWC Tournament with an adjustment on the draws being the difference maker.
With the win, Masuk will face No. 1 Simsbury in the semifinals on Tuesday (location and time to be determined).

Emma Troesser scored five times and had four assists, Bailey Bajda had four goals and two assists, Devan Kreiner scored three times and had a trio of assists, Charlotte Pinto netted two and assisted two more, and Molly Kinahan added one.
Maya Tomaszewski and Mary-Kate Boyle played solid defense and goaltender Maddy Farrer made seven saves.
Possession was key in this game with Masuk winning 18 of 26 draws led by the efforts of Emma Troesser, Bailey Bajda and Abby Troesser.

“The girls came to play today — no doubt,” Masuk Coach Rob Troesser said.
Masuk did not win nearly as many draws in a 12-4 loss to Newtown in the SWC semifinals, but watched some video, practiced hard and made adjustments to get to loose balls off the draws, the coach said.
“That made the difference,” Troesser said.
