MONROE, Conn. — Masuk girls lacrosse, the No. 5 seed in the bracket, advanced to the Class L State Tournament semifinals with wins over No. 12 New London in Tuesday’s opening round and No. 4 Fairfield Warde in the quarterfinals on Friday.
The Panthers beat visiting New London 18-3. Charlotte Pinto scored five goals and Bailey Bajda netted four. Olivia LaBonte, a JV call-up, recorded three goals and Emma Troesser scored twice.
In the win at Warde, Masuk trailed 3-2 after one period, and the game was tied 4-4 at the half. Troesser put the Panthers up 5-4 and assisted Bajda on a free position play for a 6-4 advantage. Warde got back to within a goal, but ended up with its fourth yellow card and the Panthers held the ball to preserve the lead.
Bajda and Troesser both scored twice and Clare Fulchino and Pinto each scored once. Troesser had three ground ball scoops and Pinto had a pair of draw controls. Goaltender Maddie Farrer made three saves
Masuk visits No. 1 Simsbury in the semis on Tuesday. Simsbury is the defending Class L champ and defeated Masuk 10-7 in a contest earlier this season.
