Coming off a runner-up finish to Newtown in the 2024 South-West Conference Championship, Masuk High’s girls golf team is making a case to be the team to beat in 2025. The Panthers are 8-0, including wins over some of the best competition around — Newtown and last year’s third-place team, Immaculate of Danbury.
Masuk defeated Newtown at Newtown Country Club on Thursday, 183-219 with four players carding scores in the 40s. Adriana Lupo shot a 44, Alex Cecchino 46, Abigail Yeager 44 and Jocelyn Allen 49.
The Panthers played four matches in as many days. They beat visiting Notre Dame Prep at Whitney Farms Golf Course on Wednesday. Masuk shot a 177 in that triumph. Lupo led the way with a 41, followed by Cecchino with a 46, Yeager and Allen each shooting a 47 and Emma McIntyre carding a 57.
On Tuesday Masuk beat visiting Immaculate with a team score of 171, posting a convincing win over Immaculate with a score of 214. Lupo had a 41, Cecchino 40, Yeager 42, Allen 48 and McIntyre 52.
On Monday the Panthers beat visiting Joel Barlow of Redding 169-228. It was Masuk’s second win over the Falcons this year, including a 191-240 win at Redding Country Club to open the season in early April.
Masuk’s other wins: 192-300 at Notre Dame, 189-300 at Stratford and 182-233 at home over St. Joseph of Trumbull.
