Masuk girls crush two opponents in collective efforts

Julia Hourigan and the Panthers rolled to a 49-21 win over visiting Amistad on Wednesday.

MONROE, CT — Two days, two games — two blowouts. Masuk High’s girls basketball team followed up Tuesday’s 61-31 road win over Bunnell of Stratford with a 49-21 victory over visiting Amistad of New Haven the next night.

In the win over Bunnell, Peyton Webb led the way with 20 points, Bailey Bajda scored 17, Grace Sheppard had 11 and Maddie Farrer nine.

Masuk got strong contributions from nine players in the win over Amistad. Bajda scored 14 of her 18 points in the first half. Julia Hourigan dropped in 10 points. A quartet of Panthers — Sheppard, Farrer, Emma Troesser and Webb — contributed four apiece

Riley Thom had three and Abby Troesser added two. Sj Pamulapati also chipped in with some nice passing and defense.

The Panthers improved to 11-6 overall heading into a key South-West Conference visit with Pomperaug of Southbury Friday at 6 p.m.

Pomperaug is one of four 8-2 teams at the top of the conference. Masuk is one of a trio of 6-4 squads in SWC play battling for positioning.
