Masuk boys soccer team ties Pomperaug

Cole Rigby competes for Masuk in an earlier game against Weston.

Masuk battled to a 1-1 draw with host Pomperaug on Tuesday night. Pomperaug opened the scoring in the 24th minute. Masuk continued to apply high pressure and eventually evened the game in the 32nd min of the first half. The goal was scored by Junior Kasper Murzinski on a beautiful pass by sophomore Cole Rigby.

Masuk controlled possession at times, but could not break the tie. Credit Pomperaug’s goalie and central defenders.

“They did a great job winning balls in the air and their keeper made at least four incredible saves throughout the game,” Masuk Coach Brendan Cavanaugh said. “Our defense came up huge in stopping counter attacks throughout the game. Riley O’Donnell, David Aguilar, Daniel Heinrich, Sid Pamulapati and Matt Johnson all played great games on defense.”

Kolbe Cathedral is scheduled to visit Masuk on Thursday at 7 p.m. and Bassick comes to Monroe the next night at 7:15.
