MONROE, CT — The Masuk High boys soccer team bounced back from a 2-0 season-opening loss to visiting Weston on Sept. 13 with a 3-0 win at New Milford two days later.
The team came out with some fire, Coach Brendan Cavanaugh said.
Masuk opened the scoring in the fourth minute with junior Owen Correll beating the last defender and scoring to set an early tone; the goal was assisted by junior Kasper Murzinski. It was 1-0 at halftime.
In the second half, the Panthers continued to apply high pressure and scored 10 minutes out of the break with a strike by senior captain Roger Fekete, assisted by sophomore Cole Rigby. Masuk struck again 17 minutes later with another Fekete tally, off another assist from Murzinski.
The defense did a great job stopping any threats led by captain Riley O’Donnell and Senior David Aguilar, Cavanaugh said. Captain and goaltender Chris Simouloudis made six saves in the win.
In the Weston game, both teams had to deal with wet conditions that made it difficult on both sides to play the ball to feet. The Panthers came out flat and missed on some early opportunities against a strong team, Cavanaugh said.
