MONROE, CT — It has been an exciting start to the season for Masuk High’s boys lacrosse team. The Panthers have three wins in their first six games, two of which were decided by a goal — one in overtime. And among Masuk’s defeats is a one-goal nail-biter.

Masuk followed up its 7-6 season opening win over Newington with a 14-1 trouncing of Notre Dame Prep. The Panthers lost to Weston 9-6 then beat Waterford 6-5 in overtime. The next two games were hard-fought defeats, 11-9 to New Milford on Tuesday and 8-7 to Newtown on Thursday, both at home.

In the Notre Dame game Riley Kyle scored five times, Cole Henderson scored three times and Evan Taylor notched two goals.

Against Waterford A.J. Cavanaugh had the OT winner, one of his two tallies in the contest. Taylor and Kyle also had two goals apiece in the game.

Coming off a close one with New Milford the Newtown matchup started well for the Panthers with Masuk grabbing a 3-0 lead. The Nighthawks came back and seized an 8-5 lead before two late Panther tallies made things interesting in the final seconds. Riley and Cavanaugh both scored twice in the setback. Max Viglione had three assists.

Michael Charland, Austin Keegan, Taylor and Viglione all had multiple ground ball scoops.

Masuk returns to action Tuesday, April 22, with a visit to Bethel at 4 p.m.
