Masuk boys golfers lose a pair of close contests

DANBURY, CT — Immaculate High School handed Masuk boys golfers their first league defeat Thursday, a day after their first loss of the season.

The Panthers lost to Immaculate by only three strokes, 172-175, at Richter Park’s 36 par golf course.

Masuk’s Alex Giugno was a co-medalist with Dan LaBlanc of Immaculate, sharing the best score with a 38 each.

Other individual scores for the Panthers were John McIntyre 43, Colin Abbott 45, Brien Trimbach 49 and Justin Carriero 51.

Immaculate’s other players’ scores were Jackson Saul 43, Nick Iannetta 44, Ryan Foye 47, and Chase Dietter 49.

Masuk’s league record is 8-1.

Home loss to Pomperaug

Earlier in the week, on Wednesday, Masuk lost a non-league game to Pomperaug High School at home, 170-180.

Luke Brower, of Pomperaug, was the medalist, finishing Whitney Farms’ 36 par front Blue in 40 strokes.

Masuk’s top scorer was John McIntyre 44, followed by teammates Alex Giungo 45, Colin Abbott 45, Justin Carriero 46 and Brien Trimbach 50.

Pomperaug’s individual scores were Dan Casanta 41, Tyler Flood 44, Jack Szabo 45, and Peter Nikolich 47.

Masuk’s next game is at home Monday at 3 p.m., when they face Notre Dame of Fairfield at Whitney Farms Golf Course in Monroe.
