MONROE, CT — Frosting, jelly beans, gummies and other sweet ingredients are common construction materials to build a gingerbread house. Local architects will put their designs to the test in Monroe Parks and Recreation’s second annual Gingerbread House Competition this year.

There is a kid’s category for ages 12 and younger and an adult category for age 13 and older. There is a $5 fee per entry. Those interested in participating can visit to register. The registration deadline is Tuesday, Dec. 7.

The deadline to submit entries is Tuesday, Dec. 14. Participants should email a photo of their gingerbread house to [email protected].

Judging will begin on Dec. 15 and will be open to the community through a link that will be posted to the Monroe Parks and Recreation Facebook page and website. Winners will be announced for the adult and the kid’s categories on Dec. 21.
