Gingerbread House competition needs more architects

Katie McDavid won last year's Gingerbread House contest with her entry, Christmas in Monroe.

MONROE, CT — Frosting, jelly beans, gummies and other sweet ingredients are common construction materials to build a gingerbread house. Local architects will put their designs to the test in Monroe Parks and Recreation’s second annual Gingerbread House Competition this year.

There is a kid’s category for ages 12 and younger and an adult category for age 13 and older. There is a $5 fee per entry. Those interested in participating can visit www.monroerec.org to register. The registration deadline is Tuesday, Dec. 7.

The deadline to submit entries is Tuesday, Dec. 14. Participants should email a photo of their gingerbread house to [email protected].

Judging will begin on Dec. 15 and will be open to the community through a link that will be posted to the Monroe Parks and Recreation Facebook page and website. Winners will be announced for the adult and the kid’s categories on Dec. 21.
