Edith Wheeler Memorial Library’s Big Truck Day attracts a large crowd

MONROE, CT — Families covered the parking lot behind Edith Wheeler Memorial Library Thursday, as toddlers checked out vehicles and posed for pictures during the library’s annual Big Truck Day.

Assistant Children’s Librarian Wendy Fox said over 400 people came to the event, which was held from 10 a.m. until noon on a day off from school.

A Monroe Department of Public Works dump truck, a Monroe Volunteer Emergency Medical Service ambulance, a Monroe fire truck and Ford Police Interceptors with the strobe lights flashing were featured among the fleet of vehicles.

RWS Waste Systems, Swenson Granite Works and the American Red Cross also brought trucks.

Police Sgt. Michael DeCarli let kids pet his K-9 Riggs and police raffled off two bicycles.

The Speech Pathology Group & Rehab had a booth outside and children played with toy trucks inside the Ehlers Room and participated in a truck scavenger hunt for the chance to win a toy car.
