Cross country teams ready to run 

MONROE, CT — Masuk High’s girls’ and boys’ cross country teams are set to begin the season. The first races are set for Tuesday when the Panther squads visit Brookfield to take on the host Bobcats, Immaculate of Danbury and Newtown. The boys will race at 4:30 p.m. and the girls will compete at 5 o’clock.

The first home meet, at Wolfe Park’s Great Hollow Lake, is set for Sept. 21 when New Fairfield, New Milford and Notre Dame-Fairfield visit; same starting times of 4:30 and 5 p.m.

New Milford was last year’s South-West Conference champion for both the girls and boys.

The girls return two from their top 2020 conference meet performers: Molly Panella and Nora Hurley.

The rest of the Masuk squad, according to the roster posted on the Connecticut Interscholastic Athletic Conference (CIAC) website is as follows: Kayla Andreo, Ashley Colberg, Candice Fedeli, Grace Foley, Maureen Gorman, Tanya Hugar, Isabella Kantor, Sophia Kellogg, Catherine Kirk, Cecilia MacIntyre, Ava Mattingly, Kimberly Moran, Sophia Norton, Anya Rescsansi, Kayla Roy, Emily Vanderslice and Karlisse Wills.

Masuk’s boys return Owen Smith, Ryan Perez and Aiden Silvestro among its top 2020 SWC meet performers.

Other Panthers, as listed on the CIAC site are: Owen Brennan, Maxton Busa, Sean Cammarano, Ryan Cubelli, Jonathan Ganino, Jeremy Gniadek, Wesley Gustafson, Keller Hall, Oliver Irving, Sawyer Judge, Tyler Kane, Brendan Kirberger, Dominic Klittnick, Michael Majersky, William Maslar, Caleb Nealon, Sean Panella, Jackson Planker, Jackson Rader, Luke Sawyer, Anish Sharma and Jacob Urkawich.

Terry Stroz coaches the boys and Peter Lopuch is the head coach of the girls.
