BROOKFIELD, Conn. — Coming off the program’s first South-West Conference Championship in more than two decades, Masuk High’s girls lacrosse team’s bid for an encore in the state tournament came to an end on Tuesday.
The No. 5 Panthers fell 14-6 to top seed Simsbury at neutral site Brookfield High. The Panthers trailed just 6-4 at the half, but Simsbury pulled away and advanced to face No. 2 Cheshire in Saturday’s Championship game.
Masuk had three goals from Emma Troesser, two from Charlotte Pinto and one off the stick of Bailey Bajda, who also had an assist.
Troesser also caused three turnovers, recorded a pair of draw controls and had a ground ball scoop in a well-rounded effort. Abby Troesser had two ground balls. Goaltender Maddie Farrer made a handful of saves.
Masuk went 11-5 this season and had a pair of dramatic 10-9 overtime wins over rival New Fairfield, one for the SWC title.
