After overcoming health setback, Ambrosey resumes campaign

MONROE, CT — Leon Ambrosey, the Democratic Party challenger for first selectman, had an unexpected health setback, but is now back on the campaign trail. The following statement was sent from his campaign:

Dear Friends and Fellow Residents of Monroe,

When I decided to run for First Selectman, it wasn’t out of convenience or curiosity, it was because I believe Monroe deserves leadership with grit, heart, and the backbone to take on tough challenges head-on. I’m not here to sit on the sidelines. I’m here to lead.

As many of you know, I recently faced an unexpected health setback. During what should have been a routine hernia surgery, my lung was accidentally overinflated and damaged. It was a tough hit, but I met it head-on, the same way I fight for this town: with grit, focus, and a refusal to back down.

Today, I’m proud to share some good news: the surgery was successful, and I feel better than ever. The issue has been fixed, my energy is back, and my focus has never been sharper.

This lung and I have been through a lot together. Last year, a cancerous spot was removed from it and caught early, no chemo, no radiation, and I came out stronger. That experience reminded me that life doesn’t wait for perfect timing, and that when you believe in something, you fight for it with everything you’ve got.

So let me be absolutely clear: this campaign is moving full speed ahead. I’m not stepping back, I’m stepping up!

This town deserves a leader who knows what it means to push through adversity, to stand tall when things get hard, and to come out stronger on the other side. That’s exactly how I’ll lead Monroe, with strength, determination, and an unshakable commitment to our community’s future.

Monroe is my home. These are my people. And I’m all in, ready to work, ready to serve, and ready to win.

With strength and determination,
Leon Ambrosey
