MONROE, CT — A 2006 Volvo S60 T5 was reported stolen from a driveway on Wiltan Drive Thursday morning.
Police said the vehicle was last seen at 10 p.m. on Wednesday night, adding the owner left it unlocked with the keys inside, along with a brown leather wallet containing credit cards and a debit card.
As of Friday morning, police said there were no reports of fraudulent charges on the cards.
Mazda vs. utility pole
A Monroe man told police he attempted to avoid hitting a squirrel while heading east on Purdy Hill Road in his Mazda 3 Wednesday morning, before he veered off the road and struck a utility pole on a curve.
The driver, Philip Mangone, 30, was evaluated by Monroe Volunteer Emergency Medical Service personnel at the scene, but was not taken to a hospital for further treatment, according to police.
He received an infraction for traveling too fast for conditions.
Police said the road was wet at the time of the crash, adding the Mazda had to be towed. Eversource was called in to repair the utility pole.
Firefighters also responded to the emergency call.
A rollover crash
A Newtown man lost control of his Toyota Matrix, while heading east on Huntingtown Road Wednesday afternoon, went off the road and struck a tree. Then the vehicle re-entered the roadway and continued east before rolling over, according to police.
Police said the driver, William Smith, 33, was standing outside his vehicle when officers arrived. However, after EMS personnel evaluated him, they took Smith to St. Vincent’s Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.
Smith told officers he did not remember what led to the accident, according to police.
Firefighters also responded to the crash, which occurred around 2:24 p.m. The damaged Toyota had to be towed.
