MONROE, Conn. — Masuk High School recognized the importance of Veterans Day during morning announcements Wednesday, before continuing its annual tradition of observing the national holiday on Nov. 12.

“This adjusted date allows us to honor and include the veterans in our community who have other commitments on the holiday itself, while still offering our students a meaningful opportunity to learn from them,” said Principal Steve Swensen.

Swensen said his school was honored to welcome several Monroe veterans, who spoke to students in Masuk’s library from 8:45 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.

“Throughout the morning, they will meet with small groups of students, share their stories, and engage in thoughtful conversations about their experiences and service,” Swensen said before the event.

At the conclusion of the presentations, Masuk’s guests enjoyed a lunch in the main office, prepared by Masuk Culinary Arts, as another way for students to express their gratitude to them for their service.
