Richard A. Orr will be truly missed by all who knew him

Richard A. Orr, long time resident of Monroe, died on March 22, 2021 at age 92 with family by his side.

He was born in Mansfield, Ohio, to Samuel and Lena Dulfer Orr. He attended Massachusetts Institute of Technology and was most recently employed as a state marshal. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend who will be truly missed by all who knew him.

Richard was a member of St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, Lions Club and Republican Town Committee of Monroe, having served as chairman. He was also a justice of the peace. He was a man of many hobbies including gardening, photography, reading, traveling the East coast, especially Maine, and South America.

Richard is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Gloria S. Orr, daughters Nancy Smith of Mexico, N.Y., Susan Ray of Shelton and son Douglas Orr (Barbara D’Amato) also of Shelton, grandchildren Jill Smith and Lt. Col. Jeffrey Smith, and great-grandchildren Talon and Zoe, nephew William Orr (Debby Neal), niece Leisha Harris and many loving extended family members here and in Colombia.

After working 35 years for Sikorsky Aircraft, he was also a deputy sheriff and then state marshal for 40 years, enjoying that job very much and retiring in November 2020. He enjoyed his garden full of daffodils, his orchid and Christmas cacti collections.

Richard is predeceased by his son Edward Orr, son-in-law Roland Smith Jr., brother Donald Orr and mother-in-law Yolanda Burgos.

Calling hours will be held on Saturday, March 27, from 3 to 6 p.m. at Spadaccino Funeral Home, 315 Monroe Turnpike, Monroe. Burial will be at a later date, at the convenience of the family, at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church Memorial Garden.
