MONROE, CT — Masuk High’s girls basketball team posted back-to-back wins over Bunnell and New Fairfield to close out January and begin play in February. The Panthers now have nine wins and locked up a state playoff spot.
The Panthers beat Bunnell 49-24 on the road on Jan. 30, then bested host New Fairfield 38-34 on Feb. 2. Masuk returned home and fell 54-32 to one of the South-West Conference’s top teams, Immaculate, on Monday.
In the win over Bunnell, Maia Ventresca scored 15 points and Bailey Bajda dropped in 10.
Against New Fairfield, Hannah Fagan led the way with 14 and Natalie Lieto scored eight. Ventresca and Bajda both scored 11 in the Immaculate game.
Masuk is home for Senior Night this Thursday, Feb. 8, when Kolbe Cathedral visits at 7 p.m. Jenna Smith, Lauren Breyan and Ventresca will be honored.
The Panthers are in contention for an SWC playoff berth. After hosting Kolbe, Masuk visits Brookfield on Tuesday, Feb. 14, at 7 p.m. to close out the regular season.
