Dramatic playoff win for Masuk Panthers’ hockey team

SHELTON, CT — The No. 6 Masuk High hockey team bounced back from its conference tournament loss with an exciting Division III State Tournament win — a 3-2 overtime victory against No. 11 Enfield-East Granby-Stafford at the Sports Center of Connecticut in Shelton on Monday.

Luke Kondub scored the game winner, his second tally of the night. Tommy DaPonte also scored and Kondub and Christian LaBella both recorded assists.

Maddex LaFountain made 24 saves as the Panthers outshot their counterparts 31-26.

With the win, Masuk advances to the state quarterfinals and will travel to East Haven to take on No. 3 Conard of West Hartford Thursday at 7:30 p.m.

Masuk rebounded from a tough 2-1 loss to a Joel Barlow-Weston-Abbott Tech squad at Danbury Ice Arena in the conference semifinals on March 5. LaBella scored and Kondub had the assist. Masuk outshot JBWA 26-13.
