Panthers post another shutout, Masuk advances to semis

Outfielder Natalie Lieto was a force at the plate with a home run, single and three RBIs.

MONROE, CT — Another state tournament game and another shutout. The No. 1 seed Masuk High softball team followed up its first round bye and 15-0 win over No. 17 Wethersfield last Wednesday with a 7-0 win over visiting and No. 9 Mercy in the Class L quarterfinals on Saturday.

Julia Bacoulis had nine strikeouts and only allowed three hits.

At the plate, Ava Moretti went 3-for-3 with two runs scored. Natalie Lieto went 2-for-4 with a home run, a single and three RBIs. Bacoulis went 2-for-4 with an RBI. Ciena Perpetuo singled and drove in two runs and Alyssa Castillo singled and knocked in a run.

The Panthers will play No. 13 Guilford in the semifinals at a neutral site to be determined Monday or Tuesday.
