Panthers fourth in SWC swim championships

MONROE, CT — Numerous top 10 individual and relay performances sparked host Masuk High’s boys swim team en route to a fourth-place finish in the South-West Conference Championships Thursday.

Pomperaug of Southbury won the event with a score of 647. Weston finished second with 377, followed by Brookfield with 330 and the Panthers with 305.

Carter Adragna competes in the 100 meter breaststroke.

The 200 yard medley relay team of Brendan Kirberger, Carter Adragna, Sam McHugh and Riley Sheppard placed fifth in a time of 1:43.86.

Kirberger took third in the 200 freestyle race in 1:48.49. In the 50 free, Adragna was fourth in 23.12 and Sheppard placed eighth in 24.06.

McHugh was third in the 100 butterfly event in 54.62 and Keller Hall came in sixth in the fly with a time of 57.09. In the 500 free, Kirberger placed second in 4:51.54 and Alex Malecki came in 10th in 5:45.28.

The 200 free relay of Malecki, Hall, Kyle Zarkar and Jack McHugh was third in 1:38.49.

Masuk had a trio among the top 10 in the 100 backstroke with Jack McHugh placing fourth in 58.25, Sam McHugh fifth in 58.62 and Hall ninth in 1:01.27. Adragna was second in the 100 breaststroke race in 1:03.97.

The 400 free relay of Adragna, Sam McHugh, Kirberger and Sheppard came in fourth in 3:26.09.
