South West United girls hockey team battles opponents

SHELTON, CT — The South West United girls hockey team, comprising of players from Masuk and other area high schools, has had some close games this winter. The team skated to a 1-0 win over Guilford at home, at the Sports Center of Connecticut in Shelton, on Dec. 23. Francesca Buccieri scored and goaltenders Jen Velky and Arianna Bartolomei combined for the shutout. SWU out shot Guilford 27 to 12. In another home game, on Jan. 4, SWU was beaten 3-2 by Suffield in overtime. Jules Damon scored both SWU goals. Bartolomei and Velky again combined to share goaltending duties.…
