New Teacher Profile: Alissa Velazquez loves creating a mini-family throughout the year

Position: First grade teacher, Fawn Hollow Elementary School

Background: I previously taught second grade at Samuel Staples Elementary School in Easton for seven years.

Where did you grow up?: Danbury

Education: I went to the University of Connecticut and received my bachelor’s and master’s there. B.S. in elementary education, M.A. in curriculum and instruction.

What do you like most about being a teacher?

I love creating a mini-family throughout the year and getting to know students on a personal level. Social/emotional learning is very important to me, so I love teaching students skills to be successful members of society.

What are you most excited about working in Monroe?

I am so excited to integrate myself into the community and learn from the talented staff that works there. I am excited to build relationships with staff, students and families.
