Motorcycle rider, passenger hospitalized after serious Route 111 crash

A motorcycle rider and his female passenger were taken to Bridgeport Hospital with serious injuries after his Harley Davidson was hit by a Jeep Cherokee on Monroe Turnpike Thursday night.

Police Capt. Keith White said the motorcycle was heading south on Route 111 (Monroe Turnpike) when the driver of the Jeep turned left from the north bound lane to enter the plaza at the corner of Elm Street before the collision.

White did not release the names of the motorcycle rider and his passenger, because the families have not been notified yet.

The driver of the Jeep was evaluated at the scene by Monroe Emergency Medical Service personnel and driven home by a family member.

Police responded to the 6:01 p.m. call and closed Route 111 to allow their Serious Crash Investigation Team to work at the scene.
