Monroe Police remind drivers to lock vehicle doors as thieves target neighborhoods

The Monroe Police Station shares the Monroe Town Hall building at 7 Fan Hill Road.

MONROE, Conn. — Police received several reports of unlocked vehicles that were entered in the Barn Hill and Wheeler road area in the early morning hours of Sunday, May 10. All of the vehicles were rummaged through, but nothing was taken with the exception of checkbook reported stolen from a GMC pickup truck on Barn Hill Road, according to police.

Lt. Kevin McKellick said the victim was advised to notify his banking institutions to ensure there was no monetary loss.

“Police remind residents to lock their doors and take valuables out of their vehicle,” McKellick said. “Thieves usually look for easy targets and when doors are locked and nothing of value is visible they tend to move on.”
