MONROE, CT — A Yoshino Cherry tree now stands in front of Monroe Town Hall. It was planted in memory of Rosemarie Caruso during an Arbor Day celebration Thursday morning.
Monroe has now been a Tree City USA community for two decades running.
The town was recognized by the Arbor Day Foundation, in partnership with the U.S. Forest Service and the National Association of State Forests for its commitment to effective community forest management and for meeting criteria demonstrating Monroe’s commitment to responsible municipal tree care.
Taking part in Thursday’s tree planting were First Selectman Terry Rooney, Parks and Recreation Director Missy Orosz, Park Ranger Chris Tucci and Parks and Recreation office aides Stacey Cossuto and Diana Stanton.
Special features of the Yoshino Cherry tree are white spring blossoms with a tinge of pink filling the branches before the narrow foliage appears.

Great to see Arbor Day being celebrated. 20 years what other environmental actions can we celebrate. Thank you for planting!
