Mary Bridget Lombardi

Mary Bridget Lombardi, known affectionately as “Maureen,” passed away on December 15, 2023, at the age of 86 in Alpharetta, Ga. She was born on January 31, 1937, in Hollymount, Co. Mayo, Ireland. Maureen was a devoted wife of 59 years to her beloved husband, Donald.

As a late teen, Maureen attended nursing school in London; and then emigrated to the states, where she worked as a Registered Nurse at various hospitals, nursing homes and prisons, until her retirement in her 60’s.

A devout Christian, Maureen was a member of local prayer meeting at St. Jude; a voracious volunteer and, in general, an outstanding member of the Monroe community until she and her husband moved to Georgia in the early 2000’s.

She is survived by four children: Maura Flanagan (James), Paul (Jeff), Ronald (Lisa), and Thomas (Ivana). She was a proud grandmother to six grandchildren: Nicole (Brandon), Sarah, Rachel (Nathan), Sofia, Luna, and Joaquin; two great-grandchildren, Nathan and Liam.

Her sister-in-law Joan Peck (Norman) and her cousin Rosaleen Hession also survive her as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. Maureen was predeceased by her two brothers Paddy and Seamus McDonald of Ireland.

Maureen will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her loving spirit, effervescent smile and unwavering faith will forever remain in our hearts. May she rest in eternal peace.

A mass to celebrate Maureen’s life will be held on Saturday, January 13, 2024, at 11 a.m. at St. Jude Parish, 707 Monroe Turnpike, Monroe. Family and friends are invited to join in remembering and honoring this remarkable woman.
