Masuk High’s boys volleyball team followed a 3-0 (23-25, 20-25, 20-25) loss at Cheshire on April 14 with three straight wins and improved to 5-3 heading into Thursday’s home match with Pomperaug of Southbury.
Against Cheshire, Aiden Rodas had 9 assists, 2.5 total blocks, 1 kill and 3 digs; Caleb Purdy recorded 4 kills and 4 total blocks; and Jaylen Africot had 4 kills and 3 total blocks.
On April 16, Masuk won at Brookfield 3-0 (25-15, 25-18, 25-18) in a match against a conference foe that does not count in the South-West Conference standings. Aiden Rodas had 17 assists, 2 aces, 2 kills, 0.5 total blocks, and 4 digs; Carter Given 5 kills, 2 aces and 6 digs; and Finlay Oatis 2 kills, 1.5 total blocks, 1 ace, 1 assist and 5 digs
The Panthers won at New Milford 3-1 (25-11, 25-19, 11-25, 25-14) in another nonconference match versus an SWC opponent. Sanju Selvaraju had 9 digs and 1 ace; Aiden Rodas: 27 assists, 3 digs, 3 aces, 1 block and 2 kills; Caleb Purdy 12 kills, 4 digs, 1 block, 1 ace and 1 assist; and Matt Moran 2 kills, 2 aces and 11 digs.
On Tuesday, April 21, the Panthers hosted Brookfield in a rematch and the team’s first conference match of the season. Masuk won again, 3-0 (25-16, 25-18, 25-9). Aiden Rodas racked up 18 assists, 10 digs, 1 ace and 2 kills; Caleb Purdy 8 kills, 0.5 total blocks and 3 digs; and Trey Sbrega had 4 aces, 6 digs, 8 assists and 2 kills.
