Masuk volleyball looks to bounce back in states

SOUTHBURY, Conn. — The No. 3 Masuk High boys volleyball team fell 3-1 (25-16, 25-27, 25-17, 25-19) at No. 2 Pomperaug of Southbury in the South-West Conference Tournament semifinals on Tuesday and will now turn its attention to the state playoffs.

Masuk stat leaders from the match: Caleb Purdy: 11 kills, 0.5 total blocks, and 12 digs; Trey Sbrega: 3 aces, 5 kills, 0.5 total blocks, 13 assists, and 8 digs; Aiden Rodas: 1 ace, 7 kills, 0.5 total blocks, 13 assists, and 11 digs.

The Panthers will look to bounce back in the Class S State Tournament at Kolbe Cathedral of Bridgeport on Wednesday, June 3, at 4:30 p.m. Masuk is the No. 9 seed and Kolbe the No. 8 team. The winner will visit Woodstock Academy in the quarterfinals on June 5. Masuk lost a 3-2 battle with Kolbe late in the regular season.
