Masuk swimmers begin season with road meets

Masuk High’s boys swim team opened the season with a pair of road meets, Dec. 21 at Pomperaug and Dec. 27 at Fairfield Prep to take on the host Jesuits, along with Notre Dame-West Haven. Pomperaug won 95-77, exhibitioning the last three events. Masuk beat Notre Dame 94-77 and fell to Prep 101-65.

Against Pomperaug, Brendan Kirberger won the 200 freestyle race in a time of 1:57.77 and took first in the 500 in a time of 5:06.85.

Carter Adragna won the 200 individual medley, making his final touch in 2:13.26. Sam McHugh won the 100 butterfly event in a time of 57.60. Riley Sheppard was second in the 50 free in 24.09 and second in the 100 in 54.52.

In the Prep/ Notre Dame meet, Adragna won the 100 backstroke event, clocking in at 1:07.33.

Masuk’s 200 medley relay came in second in 1:49.08. The relay comprised Jack McHugh, Adragna, Keller Hall and Sheppard.

Kirberger came in second in the 200 IM in 2:08.43. Sheppard was second in the 50 free in 24.65. Hall placed second in the 100 butterfly in 1:01.03.

The Panthers resume competition with their first home meet on Jan. 5 when the Barlow-Bethel squad visits Monroe at 6 p.m.
