Masuk sluggers use double-digit scoring for 4-game winning streak

Austin Couto started on the mound and pitched five strong innings in a win over Kolbe on Wednesday.

Masuk High’s baseball team has been tearing the cover off the ball, getting contributions from up and down the lineup during a four-game winning streak. All of its games have featured double-digit scoring.

The Panthers, after getting outscored 12-11 by New Fairfield on April 13, continued the trend of piling up runs and defeated visiting Joel Barlow 11-7, before reeling off road wins at Kaynor Tech and Notre Dame Prep, then returning home to defeat Kolbe Cathedral. Game results are as follows:

April 15, Masuk 11, Barlow 7: Jackson Zylick was 3-for5 with four runs batted in and two stolen bases. He also robbed a game tying grand slam to end the game. Nate O’Hara added three hits and Matt Boyle had two hits. Connor Fulchino hit a solo homerun. Austin Patti picked up the win on the mound with three innings of relief and Graham Gabriel got the save.

April 17, Masuk 12, Kaynor Tech 1: Austin Couto pitched a complete game (five innings) allowing only one run on two hits in this mercy rule victory. Al Morgenthaler, Ethan Fonck, and Nate O’Hara all had two RBI. The team had 11 hits.

April 20, Masuk 12, Notre Dame Prep 5: Graham Gabriel got the win on the mound with Austin Patti and Sam Giampe providing solid relief to finish the game. Matt Boyle had four RBI, including a bases clearing double in the third inning. Nico Convertito, Al Morgenthaler and Nate O’Hara all added a pair of runs batted in and Austin Patti had two hits and an RBI.

April 22, Masuk 10, Kolbe 4: Austin Couto got the win on the mound pitching five innings, striking out two and allowing only one hit. Sam Giampe finished the game pitching two innings, striking out two. At the plate Jackson Zylick had a single, double and a triple, scored four runs and stole five bases. Matt Boyle hit a bases-clearing double in the first inning. Sam Giampe, Jerson Perez, Austin Couto and Nate O’Hara all drove in runs.

Masuk improved to 5-4 this spring. The Panthers go to Southbury to take on Pomperaug Friday at 4:15 p.m.
