Masuk Panthers win state boys volleyball crown

HARTFORD, CT — Masuk High’s boys volleyball team, the No. 4 seed in the Class L State Tournament, defeated No. 6 Cheshire 3-0 in the championship match at Sport and Medical Sciences Academy in Hartford Friday.

The Panthers won by scores of 25-18, 25-19 and 25-15. Nate McCauley logged 18 kills, Dan Ferris had 14 Kills and Nathan Kurkoski accumulated 39 assists.

Masuk advanced to the title round with 3-0 wins over No. 13 Oxford and No. 5 Wolcott Tech, followed by a 3-2 edging of No. 9 New Canaan on Wednesday. In the win over New Canaan, the game scores were 25-23, 17-25, 25-16, 23-25, 15-13.

The Panthers, led by Coach Hipolito Castro, went 17-3 in the regular season. Members of the team include:
