Masuk Panthers one step away from another softball championship

Aubrey Zvovushe-Ramos scored a run in the sixth inning to help Masuk advance to the championship game.

MERIDEN, CT — It will be 1 versus 2 for the title. The No. 1 seed Masuk High softball team defeated No. 13 Guilford 4-2 in Tuesday’s Class L State Tournament semifinal at Dunn Sports Complex and will face No. 2 Ellington in the Saturday, June 8, championship game at the University of Connecticut at 7 p.m.

In the semifinal win, Julia Bacoulis had 12 strikeouts. The Grizzlies scored in the top of the first inning with a single from Addison Smith and an RBI double from Ella Munson.

But the Panthers answered right back in the bottom of the first with a leadoff double from Natalie Lieto and and RBI triple from Grace Ely. Alyssa Castillo had an RBI single to score Ely for an early 2-1 Masuk lead.

In the top of the fourth, Addison Smith had an inside-the-park home run to tie the game at 2-2.

In the bottom of the sixth, Lieto singled to score Ciena Perpetuo and Aubrey Zvovushe-Ramos for a 4-2 lead.
