Masuk hockey team skates into state tourney’s quarterfinals

SHELTON, Conn. — Masuk High’s hockey team, the No. 3 seed in the bracket, won its Division III State Tournament opener with a 4-1 win over No. 14 Newington co-op at the Sports Center of Connecticut on Tuesday.

The Panthers bounced back from an overtime defeat in the conference title game behind two goals and an assist by Luke Kondub and goals by Mike Leventakos and Graham Cybart.

The Panthers will take on the No. 6 Milford Mariners in the quarterfinals Thursday at Wonderland of Ice in Bridgeport beginning at 7:30 p.m.
