Masuk hockey team sets record for wins, prepares for playoffs

SHELTON, CT  — The Masuk High hockey team celebrated Senior Night on Saturday with a 6-2 win over North Branford at The Rinks at Shelton, setting a school record for most single regular season victories with 17.

The 17-1-2 Panthers have a chance to break Masuk’s all-time season win mark of 21, including the post season, with more victories in this year’s playoffs.

Drew Scalia and A.J. Michetti both scored twice and Nick Kondub and Kyle Sutfin each added a goal.

Luke Kondub, Christian LaBella and Austin Braiewa had two assists a piece, and Scalia, Sutfin, Alex May and Colin Deering each had an assist.

Goalie Maddex LaFountain got his 12th win of the season in net with Andy Guerrera playing the final nine minutes to close out another Masuk win.

Up next is the SWC-SCC Tournament semifinals versus Shepaug on Wednesday, March 1, in Shelton. Opening faceoff is at 5 p.m.

Masuk’s regular season point leaders are:

Drew Scalia — 29 goals, 26 assists, 55 points

A.J. Michetti — 17 goals, 21 assists, 38 points

Kyle Sutfin — 20 goals, 17 assists, 37 points

Nick Kobdub — 12 goals, 21 assists, 33 points

Christian LaBella — 12 goals, 20 assists, 32 points

Luke Kondub — 10 goals, 22 assists, 32 points
