Masuk girls soccer shuts down opponents in several contests

Masuk goalie Kara Leandres leaps up for save. Defense led the Panthers to 3 recent wins and 1 tie. The team is 4-2-1 overall.

The Masuk Panthers girls soccer team played great defense, while shutting out opponents in five games this season, including a 4-0 triumph over Stratford High School Tuesday night, breaking a two game losing streak in contests against Brookfield and Newtown.

Ella McGee led the Panthers’ offense with two goals, and Hannah Dorney and Erin Davis added a goal and an assist each in the win, improving Masuk’s record to 4-2-1 under Head Coach Kate Pellegrino and assistant Alex Cota.

Tatiana Fabryk controls the ball for Masuk.

Throughout the season Masuk has enjoyed strong play in the midfield from Davis, Amelia Stephens and Tatiana Fabryk.

The defense has been anchored by Gianna Convertito, Marise Klutch, Emily Poole and Devon Kreiner. And the top scorers are forwards Dorney, McGee and Brianna Van Derheyden.

Earlier in the year, an amazing save in goal by Kara Leandres kept the game scoreless in a 0-0 tie against Wilton.

Masuk won 3-0 against New Fairfield with goals from McGee, Dorney (with assists from Stephens) and Van Derheyden.

Dorney had a hat trick in a 5-0 win over Immaculate, while McGee and Van Derheyden added a goal each.

The Panthers also blanked Kolbe Cathedral 3-0.

Masuk’s next game is against Norwich Free Academy this Saturday at noon.
