Masuk girls lacrosse team earns SWC’s top seed

MONROE, CT — What a season it has been for Masuk High’s girls lacrosse team — including 10 wins in 11 conference games to earn the South-West Conference Tournaments top seed.

The Panthers will play in Thursday’s quarterfinal round against the loser of Tuesday’s Brookfield-Bethel contest.

Masuk defeated Weston 13-7 at home on May 7. Lilly Cameron had five goals. Bailey Bajda scored four goals, and had eight draw controls to go along with one assist. Charlotte Pinto recorded two goals. Sam Henry racked up four assists, five draw controls and forced three turnovers.

In a May 9 visit to Pomperaug of Southbury Masuk won 15-8. Cameron again scored five times. Devon Kreiner logged three goals and had four draw controls. Bajda scored twice caused turnovers and had an assist along with five draw controls and forced one turnover. Henry had two goals, one assist, nine draw controls, and forced two turnovers. Pinto had three goals, one assist, and one forced turnover.

The last regular season game was Saturday against nonconference team Daniel Hand of Madison. Masuk won 9-4 behind three goals each from Bajda and Pinto and a pair from Henry.

The winner of the quarterfinal game will play in the Tuesday, May 21, semis with a spot in the following Thursday’s (May 23) championship game on the line. If Masuk advances in the quarterfinal round it will host a semifinal game. The quarters and semis are both scheduled for 6 p.m. with the championship at a neutral site at 7 p.m. (times subject to change).
