Masuk girls lacrosse team advances to SWC semifinals

MONROE, CT — Masuk High’s girls lacrosse team, the top seed in the bracket, hosted and defeated No. 8 Bethel 17-6 in Thursday’s South-West Conference Tournament quarterfinals.

Samantha Henry had four goals, two assists and eight draw controls; Bailey Bajda netted four goals and had seven draw controls; and Charlotte Pinto also had four goals to go along with a pair of assists.

Lilly Cameron had two goals and an assist; Devon Kreiner scored twice and had a draw control; and Samantha Sullivan scored.

Sophie Clark made three saves on six shots through the first three quarters and Maddie Farrer stopped four of seven shots in the final period.

Masuk will host No. 4 Newtown in the semifinals on Tuesday, May 21. The game will be played at 6 p.m. Newtown overcame an 8-2 halftime deficit to defeat No. 5 Joel Barlow 9-8 in other quarterfinal action.

Masuk’s only loss to a conference team this year came to Newtown, a 12-10 contest in early May. Masuk nearly erased a 10-2 halftime deficit in that matchup.
