Masuk girls basketball caps season with win, prepares for SWC tourney

Natalie Lieto and the Panthers finished the regular season 10-10 and will have an SWC playoff game at Pomperaug on Saturday.

MONROE, CT — Masuk High’s girls basketball team concluded the regular season with a 55-40 setback to Kolbe Cathedral at home on Feb. 9 followed by a 42-34 win at Brookfield on Feb. 14. The Panthers finish the regular season at 10-10 overall.

Against Kolbe, Bailey Bajda scored 11 points and Grace Kearney dropped in nine. The game was tied at 24 at the half.

The Panthers led Brookfield 19-10 at the intermission on their way to the win. Bajda scored 13, Hannah Fagan had nine, Natalie Lieto scored eight, Kearney logged seven and Maia Ventresca added five.

Masuk qualified for the South-West Conference Tournament. The No. 8 Panthers will visit No. 1 Pomperaug in the quarterfinals this Saturday, Feb. 18, at 2 p.m.
