Masuk girls avenge loss to Bethel with 51-29 win

TRUMBULL, CT — Masuk High’s girls basketball team avenged a Dec. 20 defeat to Bethel with a 51-29 triumph over the Wildcats exactly one week later. The win came in the opening round of Trumbull High’s holiday tournament; Masuk will take on host Trumbull in Thursday’s championship game at 5 p.m.

The Panthers, who lost 49-42 at Bethel in the first meeting, fell behind 12-11 after one quarter of play but built a 24-19 halftime lead and limited the Wildcats to just four third-quarter points and six more in the fourth to pull away.

Natalie Lieto scored 14 points, Grace Kearney had 13 and Bailey Bajda scored 12 to pace the offense.

Sofia Lieto added four, Hannah Fagan and Maia Ventresca both tacked on three and Sam Dube contributed two.
