Masuk boys basketball team wins State Tournament opener

Ethan Palma and the Panthers won their first-round state playoff game.

HARTFORD, CT — Masuk High’s boys basketball team won its Division III State Tournament opener as the No. 17 Panthers toppled No. 16 Capital Prep 66-34 in the first round on Monday.

A dozen Panthers registered points, led by Tyler Newsom with 18. Ethan Palma scored nine, Matt Domenichelli and Owen Smith both logged eight and Stephen Sentementes added six on a pair of 3-pointers.

Masuk advances to visit No. 1 Bloomfield in the second round this Wednesday, March 8, at 6:30 p.m.
