Masuk boys basketball team posts first win

MONROE, CT — The Masuk High boys basketball team bounced back from its season-opening setback to Trumbull with a 73-48 win over Kaynor Tech in the home opener, on Tuesday.

Tyler Newsom scored 18 points to lead the Panthers. Masuk had scoring contributions from 11 players and a dozen Panthers got time on the court.

Alex Simoulidis scored 12, Mitch DeBernardo had nine, Ethan Palma eight and Colin Francisco seven.

Malakai Roy and Saijon Gavin both scored four, Ben Londono had three and Matt Domenichelli, Oliver Irving and Tariq Al-Hameedi each added two.

Jayden Cassese also contributed with key plays in Masuk’s win.

The Panthers have a quick turnaround with a Wednesday, Dec. 20, visit to Shelton at 7 p.m. Masuk returns home Friday, Dec. 22 when St. Joseph visits at 5:15.
