Masuk boys basketball looks to get back on the winning track

MONROE, CT — Masuk High’s boys basketball team saw its three-game winning streak come to an end at the hands of the visiting Notre Dame-Fairfield Lancers, who posted a 64-45 win over the Panthers on Monday.

Tyler Newsom and Oliver Irving both scored 10 points, Alex Simoulidis dropped in nine and Mitch DeBernardo added seven for Masuk.

The Panthers were coming off a dramatic 57-55 win over Weston on Jan. 4. Newsom scored 11, Simoulidis scored 10 and DeBernardo and Colin Francisco both scored nine.

In their previous victory, a 66-49 win at Darien on Tuesday, Newsom poured in 23 points to go along with eight rebounds and four assists; Francisco logged 10 points and seven rebounds; DeBernardo scored five points and had five assists; and Irving had four points and five rebounds.

Masuk will look to get back into the win column in a battle of Panthers on the road Thursday when they visit Pomperaug at 7 p.m. Following another away game against Bunnell on Tuesday, Jan. 16, Masuk returns home to face Kolbe Cathedral Friday, Jan. 19. Both of those tilts are also at 7 o’clock.
